Cleaning Razor Clams
Cleaning razor clams is much easier when you work methodically and keep the clams cold from beach to kitchen.
Prepare Your Work Area
Set up a clean cutting surface, a sharp knife or kitchen shears, a bowl for cleaned meat, and a separate container for shells and waste.
Open and Clean
Open the shell carefully, remove the clam, separate the usable sections, and rinse away sand and unwanted material without over-soaking the meat.
Chill or Freeze Promptly
Keep cleaned clams cold and cook them soon, or package them for freezing. Label frozen portions with the date so older packages get used first.
