Dig Times

Razor clam digging in Washington is only allowed on approved beaches during scheduled openings. Dig dates and times can change based on marine toxin testing, clam populations, and other conditions.

Check the latest dig schedule before heading to the beach. We’ll highlight upcoming openings, approved beaches, low-tide times, and any changes to previously announced digs.

Domoic Acid & Marine Toxin Levels

Razor clam openings depend on marine toxin testing conducted before digs are approved. Domoic acid is one of the primary toxins monitored because unsafe levels can make shellfish dangerous to eat.

We’ll post alerts when toxin testing affects an upcoming dig, when tentative digs receive final approval, or when a beach is closed because of unsafe conditions.

King Tides

King tides are exceptionally high tides that can produce higher water levels, stronger surf, and reduced usable beach area.

When king tides coincide with razor clam season, conditions can be significantly different from an ordinary low-tide dig. Check tide information and coastal conditions before heading out, especially when large waves or storms are also forecast.

Beach Closures

Beach openings can be changed or canceled because of marine toxins, public safety concerns, severe weather, or other conditions.

Always verify that your beach is open before traveling. ClammingHQ will highlight important closures and changes as they are announced.

Weather & Surf Conditions

Wind, waves, rain, and coastal storms can dramatically affect a razor clam dig. Even an approved opening doesn't necessarily mean beach conditions will be comfortable or safe.

Pay particular attention to high surf, strong winds, sneaker-wave warnings, and rapidly rising tides.
